At what expense?

Water is being diverted to Beijing in preparation of the 2008 Olympics, threatening the lives of millions of peasant farmers in China’s north-western provinces, according to a senior Chinese government official. It is predicted by the China Water Resources and Hydropower Scientific Research Institute (what a long name!) that there will be water shortages in China by 2010. Such is the price of pride and progress.
